Evaluation Q4) How effective is the combination of your main product and your ancillary tasks?
My documentary film would be shown on Channel 4. My 2 ancillary tasks, a radio advert and magazine have been created for the channel 4 target audience. They use a style and look that directly links to my final documentary film and would benefit the distribution and viewing figures if they were real media products.
The ancillary tasks will raise awareness of the documentary, the profile of the director and debate, address and discuss the issues involved prior to the channel 4 viewing. As it is a topic involving serious issues it may cause debate following the film if watched by a national audience. I have therefore included social media in my promotion by……..
As the documentary film is made by a young director I wanted to make sure my picture featured prominantly in all ancillary products. This will help target a young audience. Photography is also a very important aspect to advertising a product. In the magazine ancillary the photos used were taken by myself and give the audience an insight into the issues examined in the documentary as well as show some of the people who appear. The photographs are carefully taken in the style of a channel 4 documentary promotion. They can be used across posters, bus stops, magazines, newspapers as well as in a listings magazine such as…..
My documentary was about……. In order to raise awareness of an important issue such as….. I decided that a radio promotion should be used. This resulted in my having the problem of finding the approapriate radio station. My promotion was designed as if it would be aired on a national radio station such as ….., ……and inform an audience of times and dates of the documentary. I can reach a larger number of people within my target audience with a radio station such as……… As I would want to access the largest target audience I would make sure that my radio advert was aired on the radio at peak times such as ……..Say how you are targeting your audience ( use research for this) before 9am when people are going to work and 5pm as people are coming home from work. Using the radion station……. would also draw in the audience and the attention of the people listening, to tune into the documentary film. I wanted the music to stand out and catch the audiences’ attention as something different than they are used to hearing.
My focus group feedback results were that my ancillary tasks were effective. One person noted ‘the documentary and the ancillaries create a consistent style by the use of blue and yellow as well as a consistent font throughout’.
